RIP, Tom Petty (1950 – 2017)

RIP, Tom Petty.

The track below is one of my many fave tracks from the 90’s, specifically for the ending, which was written and orchestrated by Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. Of all the tracks that Tom Petty wrote, another of my faves is the “I Won’t Back Down” track which my favorite pro wrestler “Gentleman” Chris Adams used as his entrance music in the USWA. Tom Petty is a legend and will never be forgotten.

I’m using one of his tracks, “It’s Good To Be King” as a metaphor of sorts. The track encompasses what I thought of his music during my formative years in grad school. From the 3:58 point of the song, it’s like a seminal point of the song…..a farewell through life like Roy Scheider’s character at the end of “All That Jazz”, raising your hand in victory, acknowledging everyone you met along the journey of life from start to end, every success, every failure in life, and saying ‘thank you’ for the experience, and moving on to the Eternal. A victory lap of sorts, and no matter how much I’ve tried for the last 20-something years, I always find my head bowed hearing that part…………….because as CC Deville from ‘Poison’ once said, “I don’t want to NOT be a part of tomorrow………………………”

Life is short. Live it full.  #InTheKNOW
