#HealthyLivingTipOfTheWeek – 5/3/19

Larry King. Peabo Bryson. Luke Perry. John Singleton.

What do they all have in common? Simple. Heart problems.

The first two had mild heart attacks within the last 7 days.

The last two in the above-mentioned are dead. Both by strokes. Luke Perry died in early March, 2019 at age 52, and of course the entertainment world is rattled from film director John Singleton passing this past Monday after being taken off life support from stroke-related complications, age 51. His estate is calling for everyone in his memory to go get their blood pressure checked. Sadly, too many people don’t take the time to do preventative maintenance on their health until it’s too late.

According to The Internet Stroke Center, “a stroke is a sudden interruption in the blood supply of the brain. Most strokes are caused by an abrupt blockage of arteries leading to the brain (ischemic stroke).  Other strokes are caused by bleeding into brain tissue when a blood vessel bursts (hemorrhagic stroke). Because stroke occurs rapidly and requires immediate treatment, stroke is also called a brain attack. When the symptoms of a stroke last only a short time (less than an hour), this is called a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or mini-stroke“.

I can tell you personally that since November of last year, I have had a heart sonogram, a stress test, blood drawn, electrocardiograms (EKG) – just about everything to make sure that my heart is ok. Aside from my usual high blood pressure, everything is normal, thank God.

In two weeks, I go for a Life Line Screening, which includes the following screenings:

Stroke Risk Carotid Artery Plaque Build up
Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening
Osteoporosis Risk
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening
Atrial Fibrillation Screening

Another thing that is remedial is that we all take our medicine as prescribed to us by licensed physicians. They went to med school to learn all about keeping people healthy, so don’t try to play ‘Doctor’ with your own health.
GO. GET. LOOKED. AT.

I’m not one for promoting businesses to my supporters, because in a sense it would feel like I’m pandering you all to support it. However, I’m including a link to the Life Line Screening here so that you may consider utilizing their services for a nominal fee.

The life you save may be your own.
